4-H Project Record Books (PRB) are a great way for youth to document their 4-H projects and to compete to win recognition, ribbons, and prizes at the county, district, and state levels! There are 9 Project Record Book Categories, but there are plenty of ‘egg’cellent options that involve poultry! Here are 3 examples of PRB Categories that could involve aspects of poultry:

Animal Science:  Poultry, Embryology, Birds, and Pets

Science & Technology:  Veterinary Science

Healthy Lifestyles:  Food & Nutrition, Healthy Lifestyles, and Cooking

Are you rearing a backyard flock, doing the Youth Market Turkey Show, hatching eggs through 4-H Embryology, participating in the Poultry Science Summer Institute, or doing a 4-H poultry cookery presentation like Egg Chef Challenge, Turkey BBQ, or Chicken BBQ? These would all be terrific subjects for a 2023 PRB. Document your 2023 projects throughout the year in your PRB, and then turn it in at the beginning of 2024 to your county extension office. Ask your county 4-H Agents to learn more about submitting a 4-H Project Record Book.

While you are taking photos for your Poultry PRB, why don’t you submit some of those photos to the Dr. Kim Ingold 4-H Photography Contest (entries due Aug 17, 2023)? Chickens make great subjects for photography!
