Alamance County 4-H Youth Livestock Team members after the award banquet.
Alamance County 4-H has a very active Youth Livestock Team that practices almost year-round. On July 26-July 28, 2023, ten youth attended the State 4-H Livestock Judging, Skillathon and Quiz Bowl Contest in Raleigh, NC. Alamance County 4-H entered four junior (ages 8-10) individuals, two intermediate (ages 11-13) individuals and one senior (ages 14-18) team of four individuals in the contest. There were 115 judging contestants, 74 skillathon contestants, and 17 teams in quiz bowl (intermediate and senior). This is the tenth year that Alamance County 4-H has entered youth into the state contest. Top teams and individuals were announced on July 28, 2023, during a formal awards dinner banquet at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh, NC.
Junior individuals were Elaina LaRusso, Axton Harrell, Caleb Schmid, and Kenzi Riley. Intermediate individuals were Madelyn LaRusso and Hutch Robertson. Senior team members were Aiden Kernodle, Lane Whitfield, Hope Andrews, and Sage Robertson. Youth were coached by Lauren Langley, Alamance County Livestock Extension Agent.
Senior Team Results
Senior members Hope, Lane and Sage were entered as a senior team for quiz bowl and skillathon. They placed 2nd overall in quiz bowl and 2nd overall in skillathon. For skillathon, their team placed 2nd in evaluation, 3rd in quality assurance, and 3rd in identification/written test. Senior members Hope, Lane, Sage and Aiden were entered as a senior team for livestock judging where they placed 6th overall.

Individual Results
All of our youth did exceptionally well for their respective knowledge and experience (this was a first contest for five of the youth entered). Listed below are the individuals that placed in the top ten.
Kenzi Riley (junior) placed 2nd in skillathon evaluation, 5th in quality assurance, and 7th in cattle judging. Axton Harrell (junior) placed 4th in skillathon evaluation, 8th in quality assurance, 10th overall skillathon, 9th in swine judging, and 7th in oral reasons. Caleb Schmid (junior) placed 6th in skillathon evaluation, 6th in identification/written test, 4th overall in skillathon, 5th in meat goat judging, and 6th in swine judging. Elaina LaRusso (junior) placed 4th in quality assurance, 4th in identification/written test, 5th overall in skillathon, 10th in meat goat judging, 3rd in cattle judging, 4th in oral reasons, and 10th overall in livestock judging. Madelyn LaRusso (intermediate) placed 8th in skillathon evaluation, 9th in quality assurance. Sage Robertson (senior) placed 4th in skillathon evaluation and 4th in meat goat judging. Lane Whitfield (senior) placed 5th in skillathon evaluation, 5th in quality assurance, and 5th overall in skillathon. Hope Andrews (senior) placed 7th in skillathon evaluation, 3rd in quality assurance, 9th in identification/written test, and 4th overall in skillathon.
