Gobble and waddle pardoned turkeys

NC State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) has once again been selected as the home to the official National Thanksgiving Turkey, Gobble, and his alternate, Waddle. These new Pack members arrive today after being pardoned at the annual National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation at the White House on Nov. 25.

While in Washington, the National Turkey Federation formally presented President Donald Trump with the two birds, marking 78 years of the White House Thanksgiving turkey pardoning tradition. These toms are North Carolina natives, raised by Travis and Amanda Pittman on their farm in Wayne County – one of the state’s top poultry-producing regions.

The birds will move into their special 'dormitory', a custom, climate-controlled quarters at NC State under the expert care of poultry specialists and students.

By coming to North Carolina, Gobble and Waddle will be residing in the state that knows a thing or two about turkeys - North Carolina produces the most turkeys by weight of any state.  Great place to call home, Gobble & Waddle!

If you are a youth and want to learn about raising these 'turk'riffic birds, check out the Youth Market Turkey Show.

Welcome Home, Gobble & Waddle & Happy Thanksgiving!
