If you are a 4-H agent or Program Assistant who will hatch out chicks with 4-H Embryology, please join us for a training to learn about Marek’s Disease and how to vaccinate chicks. Marek’s is a disease ubiquitous in the environment that can cause death. Marek’s is NOT treatable but is PREVENTABLE with vaccination. Please remember that Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza is present in NC at this time. Please practice B.E.S.T. Biosecurity:
B – Bird Boots – keep coop boots (& clothes) at home
E – Eliminate Exposure- to other birds
S – Super Soap – clean clothes, vehicles, etc. that have contact with flocks
T- Tell a veterinarian if you see symptoms of AI in any birds (NC State Veterinary Office at 919-707-3250 or NC Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory System at 919-733-3986).
Biosecurity measures will be in place at this event, and the number of participants will be limited.
